Michael Silence
michaelA member of WWTA since 2003, Michael has been active in Scouting for 15 years and enjoys all types of outdoor activities including mountaineering, bicycling and downhill skiing. A paddler for the past 5 years, Michael has visited WWTA campsites in the San Juans and North Puget Sound as well as many trips into British Columbia. Currently, Michael is a member of the Tacoma Dragon Boat Association and is now in his second year of practicing and racing with that team on Lake Union in Seattle. Michael's interest in paddling and Puget Sound has been inspired by the successful efforts of local environmentalists such as Molly Dyer and Harvey Manning- we must continue their work to protect and preserve Washington's wild places and native species.

Tom Starr
tom starrTom has been paddling for 18 years.  A self-described intermediate, belt and suspenders paddler, Tom is never found without his VHF, PFD, multiple illumination devices, paddle float, pump, charts, tow harness, wet or dry suit. He likes to pack out more than he packs in and has a healthy respect for the water due largly to the safety articles in Sea Kayaker Magazine and a lack of desire for a Darwin Award.   Professionally, Tom is an Oracle database dba and developer with a background in mechanical engineering.
